When you do this, your feed will include more than your headline, two lines of text and your link. You will also be able to provide more information. And, of course, the more information you provide, the more attention you will get from potential customers.
Before you can completely set up your product feed, you will need to provide the proper attributes for each product you intend to list. The required attributes for Google include:
- A unique identifier that is specific to that one product alone – ID.
- A name for the product – Title.
- A URL that links the image or information to your product page – Link.
- A cost for the item based on how much you want to sell it for – Price.
- A brief description of the product – Description.
- The condition of the product, whether it is new, used, or refurbished – Condition.
You have to provide that information for your products, but there are plenty of other attributes that you could include as well so that your products will be most properly categorized and will show up in the right search results.
You have a couple of options for how your feed will be handled. You can manually upload it and you will need to redo this every 30 days. Alternatively, you can post your feed to your website and then set up a schedule with Google so that it will automatically get the information each month.
Keep in mind that it could take several weeks for your products to show up. Don’t get impatient. Google Merchant Center gives you numerous more opportunities to showcase your products and potentially bring more traffic to your website. By using merchant center, your products will begin showing up through the search results as well as the Google Shopping search results too. And, since millions of people search on Google every day, this can be very powerful for your company. Just make sure you take the time to set everything up properly for the best results, and check on the settings from time to time to ensure your feed is still getting updated.
